Passport Application Status
Passport issued in India by the Government is an important document for travelling by the citizens of the country. With the passport, the bearer can travel to various international destinations whereby it also provides a citizenship proof according to the 1967 The Passports Act. The Ministry of External Affairs, Consular Passport & Visa (CPV) division, is the organisation that acts as central unit for passport and works for the issuing of Indian passports to various Indian citizens on demand. There are 37 places across India from where issuing of passports is done, with about 162 Indian Missions abroad like Consular, embassies and High Commissions.
- Regular passport is deep blue in colour and is given to Indian citizens for travelling to foreign countries for business or vacation trips and it contains either 36 pages or 60 pages.
- Diplomatic passport is of maroon cover and is given to diplomats from India, government officers of high ranks and for couriers with diplomatic purposes.
- Official passport is of white cover and individuals who are going to represent the country on some official purpose are issued these types.
There are also certain passport issuing units in India and also in abroad missions, which can issue passports for India and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka travelling, for citizens of India, who are living in North Eastern States, West Bengal, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu. With these passports, Indian citizens can travel from India to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh only, but not to any other country.
